Smiling. Everyone does it and everyone knows how to smile, right? You know how to smile, but do you know how to really smile? Here’s a short quiz to see if you’re right.
Question one- Which part of your body smiles the most?
Question two- Which part speaks a smile to others?
Question three-Which part of your face can’t you smile with?
To answer these questions, take a minute and smile. Not a lil smirk, but a whole face smile. Quick- which parts of your face are part of the action and moving, changing, even looking better?
Yup! Your eyes change, along with your cheeks, lips, chin, and even your nose moves a little when you smile (on most of us). Not to mention the obvious part- your mouth! But did you know that something even deeper changes when you smile? Little known facts are that your heart beat changes, your blood pressure changes, even your attitude and mental health change! And depending on the reason for your smile, you’re probably getting a shot of those feel good body chemicals called endorphins.
WOW! All that just by smiling! There are even songs, poems, taglines, and quotes all written on smiling. Here’s some you might know:
“Smile and the world smiles with you.”
“It takes more muscles in your face to frown than it does to smile.” *
“Smile and make them wonder what you’re up to”.
“A smile is the prettiest thing you can wear.”
“You’re never fully dressed without a smile.” (Annie movie buffs here?)
Smiling makes you look so much better, more approachable, like someone that would be good to have a conversation with. Scowling or frowning all the time, even when you don’t know you’re doing it causes others to steer clear of you. That’s not what you intended to be sure! So try to remember that next time you’re deep in thought, how your face looks. And if you can’t smile big, at least don’t frown big either.
My husband always tells me that I look mad. Whoops! Time to “fix my face!” lol I tend to be so focused on my work, or my driving, or my reading that I forget and my face gets all super frowny across my eyebrows. Does that ever happen to you? It’s time to “unfrown” our faces and spread the smiles! That way we not only get all those wonderful feel-goods but we also share those with others. I LOVE those feel-goods you get with a SMILE. Spread the love- with your SMILE! (Don’t forget that smiling doesn’t hurt unless you’ve just had face surgery or wisdom teeth pulled.) And EVERYONE benefits!
