They're baaack!
Just a minute....I need a smile here!
What are some of the sounds you miss the most during the winter that you can only hear in the summer? For you, is it the summer birds, crickets, frogs, lawn mowers(lol), kids playing in the street, firecrackers, parades, or maybe it’s a quiet summer evening outside?
For me, one of my absolute FAVORITE sounds comes from this little guy: the unassuming North American tree frog. I have them all around my home, and I absolutely love their song. They sometimes sing during the day, when it’s cool or rainy. But mostly, they start their song when it’s dusk. I’ve saved many of them from certain death crossing my driveway. But they aren’t the only thing I love to listen to in the spring/summer season.
How about the birds that come back for the warmer weather? I’m sure there are lots of different varieties around where you live, just look around.
For most of my life, I was never a birdwatcher. That is, not until a friend gave me a book of birds from our area. Then I started noticing quite a few different ones I found in the book. When I began counting the varieties, I was amazed to see over thirty different ones. WHOA! That’s a lot of different birds!
I have yet to match the song to the right bird, of course, but I’m still working on it. Hearing these beautiful birds sing every day, along with the tree frogs, makes me smile. They are truly a blessing.
Can you identify the bird here? Hint- it likes nuts and seeds. (answer at bottom)
LISTEN all around you. You might just be amazed at what you can hear that not only will calm your nerves, but also bring you many SMILES!!
Answer: The bird is a Nuthatch. :)
