Did you ever make a promise? I used to make promises all the time, but now I never do. Because I can’t. And neither should you! See, NO ONE can ever make a promise and actually keep it. Not for sure. According to the dictionary, ‘A promise is an express declaration that something will or will not happen, be done, or given, on which expectation is to be based.’ That means you can’t break it or go back on a promise. However, no one can guarantee the future, whether it’s five minutes from now, or five years from now. No human has ultimate control over everything that could possibly happen in the future. Hence the broken promise.
Every time someone in a movie promises someone something, I get to giggling. I look at my friends and say, “Here we go again with the promises.” And quite often, that movie character ends up breaking the very promise they made before the end of the movie. To promise anyone anything, other than your love, is crazy.
So why did I title this Substack, “This is my promise”? My promise to you is simple. I promise, that I will never promise you anything, as I cannot guarantee that I will be able hold up my end. I’m only human. As are you.

So make yourself a promise today, to NEVER promise anyone anything. Instead, you can say I’ll try, or I’ll do my best, etc. Just don’t promise. Because when you break that promise, and you more than likely will, then the person you promised won’t trust you. And you don’t want that! It’s better to say I’ll try. That way, you’ll be able to smile knowing you’re doing your best, and that is the only thing you actually can do. In truth.
